The cities of the Mugello

Below is a brief description of the main cities.:

San Piero a Sieve 15 km away from the farmholiday Corzano

situated on the oldest way of communication between Bologna and Florence, has maintained the narrow streets of the center, rising up to the fortress of San Martino. Other important buildings are Trebbio Castle, the church of St. Peter and the convent of Bosco ai Frati with a crucifix by Donatello. Here is the nearest train station to our farm.

Scarperia at 18 km

Fortification built by the Florentine Republic in 1300, is famous for the art of forging cutting tools. Visit the palace of the Vicars, the rectory of Saints Philip and James and the Romanesque church of S. Agata. Today Scarperia is also famous for the Mugello International Circuit which hosts one race of the Moto Grand Prix World Championship, and is used by the Ferrari racing team  for car’s tests. Borgo San Lorenzo at 20 km

In the middle of  Mugello is the largest municipality and this is considered the capital of the territory, but only by their inhabitants, of course. In the center there is one of the oldest Romanesque churches in the area; and the villa Pecori-Giraldi, which houses the Museum of the Chini factory

Vaglia at 22 km

It ‘s nearest town to Florence, and coming from the capital of Tuscany, at Pratolino, we meets in the park of Villa Demidoff, with the famous statue of giant “Apennine”. Near there is the twelveth century Monastery of Montesenario.

Vicchio at 28 km

I’ts the last town of the valley, known as Giotto’s birthplace.. In its territory there are many valuables villas, churches and oratories; the church of San Cassiano in Padule is one of the oldest.

Dicomano at 37 km

located south of the Mugello, where the Sieve river receives the waters of the San Godenzo. In it’s municipality is located the Muraglione pass, through which we go down to the Adriatic coast. In the village there is the Church of St. Maria with important frescoes, and in the area there are several churches, oratories, and the convent of San Giovanni Battista in Sandetole.

The cities of highest Mugello 

Beyond the Giogo and Colla passes, along the valleys of the rivers Santerno, Senio and Lamone that descend towards Romagna there are 3 municipalities, immersed in a significant environment which belongs to Mugello, but due to the location are much affected by the influence of Romagna Region.

Firenzuola at 24 km

Accessible through the Futa Pass from our Farmhouse, the “little Florence” was built by the Florentine Republic in 1300, which still maintains the fortress.

Palazzuolo sul Senio at 52 km

quiet village with important historical testimonies; the Palace of the Captains of the People, houses the museum of mountain’s peoples, and the Sanctuary of Madonna of the Snow.

Marradi at 54 km

famous for the production of chestnuts, we suggest to visit: Scalelle square with the Town Hall, nearby the church of S. Reparata in Salto; and for those who wants to walk: the hermitage of Gamogna, on the trail to the roard to San Benedetto in Alpe.
